The Application Process

The financial aid application process begins and ends with the student; however, the student is one of several players in the process.

  • Student/Parent
Obtains appropriate forms from high school or college, completes them and sends them to the federal processing agency in a timely manner. Many forms may also be completed on-line.
  • Processing Agency
Sends information to the financial aid office at the school(s) the student is interested in attending, the Finance Authority of Maine (for State Grant eligibility review), and to the student.
  • Student
Receives a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the federal processing agency.
  • Finance Authority of Maine
Receives the names and pertinent information of applicants for the Maine State Grant Program.
  • Higher Education Institutions
Receive student's applications and determine eligibility for student aid awards.
  • Student
Is notified by the school of financial aid he or she will receive. The Finance Authority of Maine notifies the student if he or she might be receiving a Maine State Grant award.
